ZIMBABWE is fully geared towards constructing a strong, cleaner, greener environment for its citizens.
As the country is a signatory to the Paris Agreement, Zimbabwe has opened its green space for international investors to come and collectively build a green economy.
By strengthening both existing and new solutions, the country continues to focus on embracing new and innovative ideas and approaches.
Zimbabwe must continuously adapt and implement all relevant technologies for a brighter future.
As I have always advised on the correct pathways for a greener economy, I applaud the government for encouraging its citizens by emphasising that constructing a sustainable economy is not a solo endeavour, but rather a collective sharing of positive ideas. Inclusivity will bring the much-needed results and targets toward a 15 000 megawatt Green Field in Zimbabwe.
The urgent need for clean energy
As the world faces the escalating impacts of climate change, the urgent need for clean, sustainable energy solutions has become a national priority.
Therefore, there is a need for urgent transitioning to clean energy derived from renewable sources such as wind, solar and hydropower.

This transition not only helps mitigate climate change but also creates economic opportunities, enhances energy security, and increases the GDP of Zimbabwe.
A just transition: From fossil fuels to renewables
Yes, we cannot shut down all our thermal power plants overnight and wake up having moved to using renewable energy, but there is a need to transition accordingly.
These traditional fossil fuels release harmful greenhouse gases when burned.
However, my reasons for advocating a pure Green Field Zimbabwe are based on facts. Solar energy is an alternative, greener solution with the capacity to reduce carbon emissions.
This shift is central to reducing the global carbon footprint and achieving long-term climate goals.
Zimbabwe as a global leader in renewables
With the current rapid expansion of renewable energy uptake in Zimbabwe, the country will eventually position itself as a top global leader in renewable generation.
With existing and new investments in solar farms, rooftop solar, and energy storage systems, Zimbabwe will not only advance its own energy transformation, but will also play a pivotal role in the global shift towards a cleaner, greener future.
Ambitious and realistic strides
As Zimbabwe shifts towards clean and sustainable green energy, it is making ambitious and realistic strides to transition from fossil fuels to cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions for its citizens.
In the wake of rising global temperatures and increased natural disasters, the country is implementing and deploying clean energy technologies.
National energy transition goals
As I continue to advocate for the National Energy Transition, the country must continue applying targets to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and to continue providing technical and financial support towards these goals.
I believe that with the new policies being enacted by the government of Zimbabwe, our energy transition will be exemplified by these evolving energy policies, which focus more on supporting green energy.
The country should continue channelling resources into renewable investments through strategic reforms, supporting solar, Small Modular Reactors, wind, and biomass projects, contributing to a greener Zimbabwe and a more resilient energy system.
Supporting technologies: EVs, green hydrogen, and energy storage
There is a need to scale up the adoption of electric vehicles, as our national tailpipes are a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Zimbabwe must also heavily invest in green hydrogen production and energy storage systems.
The government of Zimbabwe should continue with its investor-friendly policies, as they can attract investors into the renewable energy sector. This not only reduces emissions, but also enhances energy access.
Promoting energy efficiency and accessibility
Clean energy is the need of the moment. Our commitment as a country will lead us to a better tomorrow.
The country should also continue with the promotion of using LED bulbs, as this scheme not only reduces energy consumption, but also makes energy efficiency accessible to millions of Zimbabweans across the country.
As I encourage the adoption of solar, there is a need to implement protection laws to support energy efficiency and energy management.
Together, we can build a clean, green Zimbabwe for all.
