Shot in the arm for ZFC Aspindale Park School

A GROUP of 25 women who are residents of Harare's Aspindale Park near Kambuzuma pooled their resources together and bought three desktop computers and a printer which they donated to the ZFC Aspindale Park School in Mufakose.

The idea was the brainchild of one of the residents Mirabel Chilongo.

She started an initiative to assist Aspindale Park Primary School in 2021 which for the past seven years had a 100% Grade 7 examination pass rate.

Seeing there was a need, the women then made contributions and sold eggs in the community to raise the money for the computers.

“The school is part of our community and it is our duty to develop it. We are living in the modern world whereby everything is linked to information technology,” Chilongo said.

“So, the donation comes in to assist the students in the modern workplace ahead of them. For them to thrive in the 21st-century workplace, they need more than a working knowledge and exposure to current technological tools.

“They must gain computer knowledge and exposure in the early stage of their educational journey.”

The school’s deputy head Wadzanayi Sithole expressed her gratitude over the donation.

“We are grateful to the Aspindale community, it’s something that we never thought would happen to us. We hope this will open doors to others who wish to add more to what you have donated,” she said.

The School Development Association chairman Norman Dzimati said the Aspindale community would forever be engraved in the school's history.

“We say thank you and keep on doing good things,” he said.

“When we talk about service delivery, this is what we mean.

“This is tangible and as a school, the students will have somewhere to practice on.

“This is what we expect from other stakeholders as well.”

One of the members of the Aspindale Park community, Charity Chinyandura said they were hoping to donate more.

The school, which has over 1 000 pupils and 16 teachers, is owned by the Zimbabwe Fertiliser company (ZFC) but run by the government.

It is one of the most-sought after schools in Harare and its catchment area is Mufakose, Budiriro, Kambuzuma and the Aspindale Park.

It prides itself for attaining the best Grade Seven pass rate.
