Burzil, you did not delve on root cause of pollution

AN article about air pollution that I wrote two weeks ago seems to have touched a raw nerve and solicited scathing comments from some readers hence, Yours Truly decided to share one of the comments with readers of this column.

It seems this time around he has taken Yours Truly to the cleaners and is taking no prisoners in terms of pollution, which is gradually turning into an alarming health hazard.

And here we go.

Good day to you sir

My name is Gabarinocheka and I am an avid reader and follower of your incisive columns, which among other things seek to promote the country's tourism. This is very commendable and clear testimony in terms of patriotism and belonging.

However, this time around I tend to differ on what you wrote last week concerning  air and noise pollution  caused by heavy duty trucks plying the Old Bulawayo Road (Hwange) whose dust is having a negative impact to those situated   along this road whose  dust is  a cause for concern.

While this was an interesting read, it seems you did not delve much into the root cause of this whole issue which if uncontrolled is to explode going into  a major health issue of alarming proportions.

The companies or organisations that are causing this type of pollution are well known, namely (names provided) and at one time residents through the district administrator's office tried to engage them and it seemed to have been a wild goose chase as nothing conclusive came from the whole process.

The bottom line is to bring to book the above mentioned companies and find ways on how they can rehabilitate this particular road, which is now proving to be an anathema to both Airport Road and Ngumija residents who are in grave danger of pulmonary diseases.

Talking of Ngumija suburb, it seems you deliberately avoided to mention the Herculean  task done by residents from this particular location who have taken it upon themselves to construct speed humps that have proven to be a boon to their social being.

I humbly appeal to you and your good offices to visit the part of Old Bulawayo road, which passes through some NRZ residential areas and see for yourself the type of handiwork done on these speed deterrent humps which might qualify for entry in the Guiness Book of Records.

To describe such man made features as speed humps might be an understatement because they can be described as knolls because of their resemble to small hills hence their candidatusre in world book of records.

Some small vehicles find it cumbersome to navigate these types of humps even though they bring some form of relief and sanity in terms of traffic and human movement.

However, I would also like to commend you for providing us with an interesting column which I continue to enjoy on a weekly basis whose stories previously dwelt on the settlement of Tonga and Nambya people in Hwànge, how names such as Jotsholo, Lupane, Dongamuzi, Nkayi, Hwange, Simangani among other came into being.

The same also goes with Lemba/Remba tribe whose links are traced back to the biblical Israelites or Jews.

Keep it up.

Please forgive me if I was a bit nasty on you.

Yours, Gabarinocheka "

Need I say more?

See you in the next column.
