She is an a academic, minted a Dr of Philosophy (PHD) in International Education and Development last year; a mother, a wife and pastor but more importantly, she is a powerful musician whose depth and understanding of scripture has seen her churn powerful music that speaks to the mind and soul and uplifts many.
From her mellow early days studio recordings through to recent year highs like Gore Remakomborero and Munochengeta, Jane Doka has proved her mettle and she takes it notches higher with her new single, Because God Said It, a powerful song that preaches hope and the Lord’s goodness.
Speaking to Standard Style, Doka said the new song speaks of the God’s supremacy all based on scripture and she is happy to share it with all gospel music lovers in this season.
“Because God Said It is a song that centres on the supremacy of God’s Word. It is a song based on scripture and crafted to point us all to the Word of God as the anchor of our faith.
Sometimes, according to our own human understanding, there is absolutely no reason to believe things will change — these are the moments when we hold onto God’s promises.
The emphasis of the song is on God and His faithfulness to perform His Word. Whatever your situation, you must remember that God has great promises for us as enshrined in his word and he is indeed a servant of his word. Whatever, he said, he will surely do,” she said.
In a world where many are losing hope owing to the many challenges they face on a daily basis, the soulful singer has a gentle reminder for all.
“The motivation of the song is mainly to strengthen our faith in God and inspire hope. I wanted to remind people that man shall not live by bread alone but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4).

I also wanted to encourage people who are in difficult situations or where there is a negative or contrary report, that God can be trusted! In fact, the words to the chorus, “Because God said it, I believe it because He’s not a man that He should lie to me” are designed to be a melody that the heart sings on repeat until fresh hope sets in. We must do everything in our power to ensure that we point people to God in these our times and that was my goal with this song,” she said.
As her profile her grows, Doka said the new single is designed to push her music beyond the confines of her native followers but grow creative stock to international levels and true to her word, the quality of the production in terms of arrangement and vocals entrenches that ideal.
“In previous times I stuck mostly to my native Shona language, which I love so dearly! With this production I wanted to reach more people than my own singing in English — a language widely spoken worldwide. I wanted to put out something that people from different backgrounds could sing along to and be ministered to. So the language, the sound, the feel of the song, the whole production in fact, was designed to position the song as something a broader audience could understand.
Taking on a CCM vibe on this production was a big departure from all my previous work, it felt like throwing a net into the sea! However, as a pastor who ministers to people from different nationalities here in UK and leads a mixed assembly, I knew it was about time that I begin releasing songs for nations,” Doka said.
With her last production Munochengeta having been released some two or three years ago, Doka said she had to take some time off music to concentrate on her studies but is happy that she conquered in that area and is happy to minister hope through her music.
“For the past few year I was completing my PhD in International Education and Development and it became clear that I could not keep up with everything at the same time — PhD study, music, pastoral work, plus my lifetime role of being a mother and a wife! So, I had to make sound decisions about what I could practically manage and had to prioritise what was imperative for that season, which in my case was to focus on getting my PhD out of the way.
I am thankful to God that I graduated last year, but the way I see it, I didn’t just emerge with just a PhD. I came out of those years empowered professionally, spiritually and musically. Somehow God made it all work out so beautifully. I have a whole catalogue of new songs ready to be released and the song Because God Said It is just a start,” she said.
As she continues with her music journey, Doka said she is excited about the future and hopes to continue sharing hope and the good news of Christ.
“Oh, I am so excited for this season! For now I can safely reveal that a lot of material will be coming out into the public domain. I am taking small steps though, hearing God’s voice and allowing Him to lead me. I will be releasing a few more singles and videos definitely and soon, and I will announce in due course if when an album will be released. It’s a wonderful time,” she said.
