Boanerges Gospel Group, led by gospel artist Godknows Moyo, is set to release its third album, UJesu Uyamemeza, at the end of this month, marking a significant milestone in the group’s musical and spiritual journey.
Unlike conventional gospel projects, the upcoming album carries a strong evangelical thrust, with Moyo describing it as “more of an altar call than a worship set.”
He said the project was inspired by a deep sense of urgency to spread the message of salvation.
“We didn’t set out to be singers; we sought to obey. This album is about telling people that Jesus is calling them now, before it is too late,” said Moyo.
The group’s musical identity has steadily evolved across its three albums — Wozani Kumdali, Indlela Eya Ekukhanyeni, and now UJesu Uyamemeza — while maintaining a consistent focus on scripture-based messages.
According to Moyo, about 80% of the new album is dedicated to direct gospel outreach.
The creative process was shaped by prayer, scripture, and real-life experiences.
“Some of the songs were written after reflecting on life events, including challenges faced within communities, which prompted deeper questions about faith and eternity,” he said.
Among the standout tracks are Jesus Is Calling You and Call His Name, Jesus, which Moyo said are designed to work together as a message of invitation and response.
“When we minister these songs, people do not just listen — they respond,” he added.
However, the journey to completing the album was not without challenges. Financial constraints nearly stalled production, limiting access to studio time and other resources.
“There were moments when we thought the album would never be completed. But that struggle strengthened our faith and reminded us that the message is not about money — it’s about souls,” said Moyo.
Following the album’s release, Boanerges Gospel Group plans to embark on a crusade tour in Bulawayo and South Africa, combining music with open-air preaching and community outreach.
The group is also preparing to expand its evangelism efforts through social media platforms.
Moyo described their sound as “evangelical gospel,” blending simple musical arrangements with strong, scripture-driven messages aimed at both believers and non-believers.
As anticipation builds ahead of the release, UJesu Uyamemeza is expected not only to inspire listeners but also to challenge them to reflect on their faith.
