European leagues beckon at Murambadoro

Staff Writer

CAPS United owner Twine Phiri says Warriors’ goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro is set to break into the lucrative European leagues as a deal with one of the undisclosed Turkey and France-based t

eams is about to be finalised.

Phiri told IndependentSport this week that Murambadoro’s three-month stint at Hellenics of the South African Premier Soccer League was just temporary as the player awaits a move to one of the big European clubs in winter.

Murambadoro is already at Hellenics and was expected to have started training midweek with the relegation-threatened club. He returned from South Africa last week after signing a deal to obtain a medical report and left Harare at the weekend for Johannesburg.

“Energy will come back after his three-month stint at Hellenics and by that time we would have sealed negotiations with clubs in Turkey and France that are interested in him. We can’t disclose the clubs now but I can assure you that a move to Europe is almost certain,” Phiri said.

Murambadoro caught the eyes of scouts in Tunisia with an inspired performance against Egypt in January when the Warriors played their maiden African Nations Cup finals match.

He however stultified into a pale shadow of the agile player he had been against Egypt when the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon hammered five goals past him in the second match.

The reigning Castle Lager Soccer Star of the Year was to be left out of the final match against Algeria in which Highlanders’ Tapuwa Kapini conceded a solitary goal.

Meanwhile, Phiri said Caps United will parade two Zambian imports on Sunday in their league opener against city rivals Black Rhinos at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Phiri was yesterday still trying to register the new signings with the Premier Soccer League.
