THE country’s sole fixed telephone operator Tel-One’s 16mb outbound satellite link to Intelsat has been switched off due to an outstanding debt of US$700 000.
The link enables fast internet browsing and downloading.
The termination of Tel-One’s link to Intelsat has consequently resulted in major disruptions to Internet services, curtailing Internet-based communication systems.
Internet service providers this week said they had been flooded with complaints from customers failing to do business over the internet because of the disruptions.
The Zimbabwe Internet Service Providers Association acknowledged problems facing clients, saying the problem had been caused by the switch off to Tel-One’s outbound satellite link. — Staff Writer.
